Zelenskiy sped up imports: Ukraine in energy crisis
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy ordered to speed up the import of electricity and additional equipment due to the energy crisis. Now Ukraine’s energy system is damaged by Russian attacks and can provide only 60% of the needed electricity. Cold weather makes the situation worse.

The president said that decisions to increase imports have been made and the process must continue without delay. The energy ministry said planned power cuts are in effect in many regions. The hardest situation is in the capital Kyiv and its surroundings.

In Kyiv, people have to live with long blackouts and without heating. The prime minister said the government and Naftogaz discussed additional gas imports, but did not give details on the volume. Last year Naftogaz imported 5.7 billion cubic meters of gas.

Ukraine has been importing gas since spring 2025 because Russian drones and missiles attacked gas facilities. According to Naftogaz, Russia has struck gas facilities six times this week. Energy supply remains a pressing issue in the country.
