Train collision in Spain: 21 victims, hundreds injured

A serious railway accident occurred in Spain. On the evening of January 18, two high-speed trains derailed and collided in the Cordova region, killing at least 21 people. Dozens more people were injured to varying degrees, and there are also victims in serious condition.
According to reports, a train belonging to the private company Iryo, traveling from Malaga to Madrid, derailed during its journey and derailed onto an adjacent track. At the same time, a collision occurred with Renfe Alvia, who was traveling from the opposite direction - from Madrid to Uelva. It is reported that the second train also derailed due to the force of the impact, and some wagons were severely damaged.
There is a difference in the number of passengers on the two trains in different sources: some reports indicate a total of about 400 people, while others note about 500 passengers. In both cases, it is clear that this is a tragedy that has changed the fate of hundreds of people in an instant.
The cause of the tragedy has not yet been officially disclosed. According to Reuters, the accident occurred in one of the right sections, which was recently repaired, so investigators are looking for an answer to the question "why exactly here?."
Rescuers are still working at the scene. It's not easy to find the survivors among the cars cluttered with scrap metal, to get people out safely. It is said that due to the main impact on some wagons, rescuers are currently unable to accurately assess how many people survived there.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stated that he is personally overseeing the incident, and the royal family also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. Against this backdrop, there are reports that some flights on the Madrid-Andalusia route have been temporarily suspended.
The most difficult thing is that these are not just numbers. Spanish media report that one of the first local officials to arrive at the scene described the scene as "an unrecognizably injured passenger." This phrase alone indicates how severe the tragedy was.
Now the main expectation is the disclosure of the reasons. Because any "minor defect" in the high-speed train system should not turn into another major accident tomorrow. In Spain, there is a high probability that security protocols and infrastructure decisions will also be reviewed after the investigation results are announced.
