Jared Kushner's project to restore Gaza has been sharply criticized

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, presented a controversial plan for the reconstruction of the devastated Gaza Strip. While the project aims to transform the area into a modern tourist center, the international community and Palestinian activists view it as a "business fantasy built upon human tragedy."
Skyscrapers & Exclusive Tourism Plan
According to Kushner's proposed project, luxury hotels, resorts, and multi-story residential buildings should be built in Gaza's coastal areas.
- Infrastructure: The plan also includes the construction of a new international airport and a large seaport.
- Value: It is said that at least $25 billion of investment is needed to restore the damaged sector in six stages.
- Trump's leverage: The US President praised this initiative and interpreted it as a key to regional stability.
"Imperialist plan" and resistance of the local population
Although outwardly seemingly pursuing noble goals, the project caused serious objections. Palestinian writer Susan Abulkhawa called it an "imperialist conspiracy" aimed at displacing the local population from their land and turning the rest into cheap labor.
- Decision without consultation: The most important aspect is that the opinion of Palestinians was not taken into account at all during the project preparation process.
- Financial uncertainty: It has not been disclosed exactly from which sources billions of dollars of capital will be covered.
Peace Council and alternative to the UN
This development project is said to be implemented within the framework of the "Council of Peace" that Trump presented in Davos. However, the council's charter does not mention Gaza at all. According to experts, this structure was created in opposition to the UN and could serve Trump's personal geopolitical goals rather than restoring Gaza.
Truth under the rubble and genocide accusation
Critics point out that Kushner's "fantasies" did not take into account the scale of the real human tragedy and destruction in Gaza.
- Victims: Since October 2023, more than 71,000 Palestinians have died. Even after the 2025 truce, the bloodshed did not stop.
- Destruction: 80% of the buildings in the sector - schools, hospitals, and residential buildings - have been demolished.
- Humanitarian crisis: 2.3 million people are struggling with hunger and disease in a blockade. Although the UN has recognized Israel's actions as genocide, the situation continues to worsen.
Suspicion of conflict of interest
According to The Guardian, Jared Kushner's activity is based on personal financial gain. It is assumed that if construction work in Gaza begins, the Affiliate Partners investment fund owned by Kushner could see unprecedented profits. This further fuels accusations of building a business based on human suffering.
In your opinion, can such "economic projects," in which the wishes of the local population are not taken into account, establish true peace in the region?
