Customs data for 2025 has been published in Kazakhstan. It was noted that 1 kilogram of meat was sold to Uzbekistan at an average of 3 dollars. This was reported by Cmn.kz.
According to statistics, during 2025, Uzbekistan purchased 66.1 thousand tons of beef and by-products from Kazakhstan for $189.9 million. This averages $2.87 per kilogram. At the same time, the retail price of beef in the domestic market of Kazakhstan has increased by more than 30 percent, reaching 4-4.5 thousand tenge per kilogram.
Deputy Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan Zhanel Kushukova, commenting on these figures, called such indicators dubious. Speaking about the price difference, he suggested that this information might be the result of a technical error.
"The state does not sell meat to the state, but the specific producer sells it on the basis of a contract. If the price in the domestic market is several times higher, it is economically unprofitable for the manufacturer to sell the product for more than 3 dollars," he emphasized.
According to the Deputy Minister, a separate investigation of the situation is required.
"It is necessary to carefully study this information, including clarifying it with the customs authorities - there is a possibility of a technical error," Kushukova said.
At the same time, the Ministry of Trade acknowledged that beef prices in Kazakhstan continue to rise, which is causing concern among the population. According to Kushukova, the main factors of price increases are the time-consuming process of restoring livestock numbers and the sharp increase in demand from Uzbekistan.
He explained that meat consumption in Uzbekistan has grown significantly in recent years, but due to natural and geographical limitations, the country is unable to expand its production in similar volumes.
