US President Donald Trump announced the launch of a government website called TrumpRx. According to him, Americans are getting closer to getting prescription drugs at lower prices. This was reported by the dpa agency on February 6.
The new platform is not an "online pharmacy" - the product is not sold directly on the website itself. The main idea is that the user finds the medicine with the right prescription, and the website calculates how much money can be saved when purchasing it. Then, to get closer to this price, you will need to download a special coupon. If this coupon is displayed at one of the partner pharmacies, you will be able to get the medicine with a discount.
The portal also shows another "important way": in some cases, it is possible to purchase the drug directly from the manufacturer. That is, the user is offered two options - through a partner pharmacy with a coupon or directly to the manufacturer.
According to dpa, at the time of its launch, the site contained about 40 medications, including weight loss products. But for now, journalists are leaving one question open: can consumers really get the huge discounts that Trump promises? It is said that there is less confidence in this aspect.
Nevertheless, it is noted that some large pharmaceutical companies agreed to offer their products with a discount through TrumpRx. If this process expands, the list of medicines on the website may also increase.
The US pharmaceutical market is one of the most expensive in the world. In many countries of Europe and Asia, drug prices are usually regulated more strictly, there are agreements and restrictions on high prices. Therefore, the price of medicines in the USA has always been a major topic of discussion.
In general, the discussion about the increase in the cost of living in the country has not stopped for a long time. The price of the medicine is only one part of this problem. Against this backdrop, some are criticizing Trump for "increasingly engaging in foreign policy and paying less attention to internal concerns."
However, the TrumpRx initiative is, after all, redirecting attention to a topic that affects people's daily needs - the price of medicine. Now the main question is one: will the system really work and will people see real savings, not "promises," when they go to the pharmacy. If this happens, this site could become not just a simple link for many, but a real tool that will ease the monthly budget.
