In Germany, a leading European country, public opinion is changing dramatically. The results of the latest social survey conducted by the Allensbach Institute showed that concerns have arisen in German society and geopolitical views are undergoing transformation.
Crisis of Trust: Views on Washington
According to the results of the study, about 65% of Germans identified the United States as the country that poses the greatest threat to the stability of our planet in the near future. The dynamics of the figures are striking: just a year ago, in 2025, this figure was 46 percent, and in 2024 - only 24 percent. As can be seen, the US foreign policy is raising more doubts among German citizens year after year.
Even trust in NATO's allied commitments has declined. Only a third of respondents (32%) believe that Washington will provide military assistance in the event of an attack on Europe.
Threat map: Russia and China
At the same time, Russia remains the main source of danger for the population of Germany. 81% of respondents said that the biggest threat to peace in the coming years will come from Moscow. Since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, this figure has remained high. Another giant in the East - China - was assessed as a threat by 46% of Germans.
Are Germans afraid of war?
Interestingly, despite the growing external threats, German citizens are not entirely convinced that their countries will be directly drawn into the vortex of war.
- 45% of respondents believe the probability of war is very low.
- Only 28% of the population is concerned about the possibility of armed conflict.
Even if the situation escalates, about half of the Germans (49%) will not leave their homeland and will remain in the country even in difficult times. This indicates that the internal unity and sense of patriotism in society are still strong.
This survey was conducted among more than a thousand citizens over the age of 16 and reflects the most pressing geopolitical landscape of today.
