In the Italian town of Torre Lapillo, a 57-year-old man almost lost in a moment the wealth he had collected throughout his life. The point is that, without realizing it, he threw away 20 gold bars together with the trash.
It is reported that the bars, valued at around 120 thousand euros, were kept in a tin box. While throwing out household waste, the man also tossed that very box into the bin. The worst part is that he realized what he had done only the next day.
After that, he immediately contacted the police. At first, the officers did not really believe the story, but after checking the surveillance camera recordings, it was confirmed that the incident was real.
During the inspection it was found that the trash had already been taken to a landfill in the neighboring town of Ugento. Law enforcement organized a search there and eventually managed to find the box containing the gold bars.
Interestingly, a similar case was also observed recently in Thailand: in November 2025 it was reported that a woman threw away three gold bars worth about 62 thousand dollars. The woman’s son promised a reward to those who returned the bars, and it was noted that the woman suffers from dementia.
