The population of Turkey is aging rapidly: statistics are causing concern

According to the Turkish Statistical Committee, the aging process is accelerating in the country. Over the past five years, the population aged 65 and over has increased by more than 20 percent.
Currently, the population of Turkey is 86 million 92 thousand 168 people. The elderly population, which was 7 million 953 thousand in 2020, will reach 9 million 583 thousand by the end of 2025. This represents 11.2% of the country's total population.
According to experts' forecasts, by 2030 this figure may exceed 13 percent. Currently, the responsibility for providing for an average of 16 elderly people falls on every 100 working-age people.
According to statistics, the city of Sinop has the highest proportion of elderly people. In terms of population, Istanbul is the city with the largest number of elderly people.
There are 10,228 citizens over the age of 100, most of whom are women. Also, about 1.7 million elderly citizens live alone in their homes.
By the end of 2023, Turkey was among the countries with an "elderly" population according to the UN classification.
