NATO continues to support Ukraine

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on March 26 that military deliveries to Ukraine are continuing through the alliance’s procurement system despite the war in the Middle East. Speaking in Brussels, he said key equipment bought through the PURL mechanism is still being sent to Kyiv, including US-made weapons paid for by European allies. Reports Dw.com.
Rutte said NATO is already coordinating military aid for Ukraine, including weapons deliveries, training programs and the sharing of lessons learned among member states. At the same time, he stressed that the alliance does not see itself as a party to the war and avoided giving a clear label to NATO’s level of involvement in Ukraine’s defense system.
He repeated that Ukraine has a path toward NATO membership, but said membership is not currently under consideration. According to Rutte, support for Ukraine remains one of the alliance’s main priorities because Ukraine’s security is closely linked to the security of NATO countries.
Rutte also described Russia as the most serious and direct threat to Euro-Atlantic security. He accused Moscow of trying to weaken Western societies through cyberattacks, sabotage and disinformation, and warned that Russia’s growing cooperation with Iran, China and North Korea is increasing risks for the alliance.
