In international political processes, negotiations between the United States and Iran are becoming increasingly complicated and, according to the Financial Times, have fallen into a “deadlock.” The main reason is cited as the issue of control over the Strait of Hormuz.

According to sources, disagreements around this strategic waterway persist in the US–Iran talks held in Pakistan. The Tehran side stated its intention to maintain full control over the strait and to charge fees from ships passing through it. At the same time, Iran firmly rejects the proposal of joint control over Hormuz.

It is reported that on April 11, a meeting between US and Iranian delegations took place in Islamabad. The American side was represented by Vice President J.D. Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law. Iran was represented by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

According to reports, Washington and Tehran also agreed on a temporary ceasefire to facilitate the negotiation process. In addition, a ten-point proposal package presented by Iran may serve as the basis for future agreements.

However, for now, the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz continues to complicate the negotiation process and delays any potential agreement between the sides.
