Another mysterious detail regarding the financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of sex crimes in the United States, has been revealed. His former cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione, provided information about the contents of a letter allegedly written by Epstein before his death. This was reported by The New York Times.
It is reported that Tartaglione found the note in July 2019, while Epstein was still alive. At that time, Epstein was found unconscious in his cell with suspicious marks on his neck. Following that, he was moved to another unit and placed under special observation due to the risk of suicide.
Tartaglione explained in detail how he found the note in his subsequent testimony. He stated that after Epstein was moved to another cell, he opened one of the books left behind in his cell and found a hidden piece of yellow paper inside.
The note stated that although investigators had been examining Epstein's activities for several months, "no evidence was found." It also contained phrases such as, "What do they expect from me — for me to cry? The time has come, I am saying goodbye."
Interestingly, Epstein initially blamed Tartaglione for the injuries on his neck to prison staff and stated that he had no intention of committing suicide. However, shortly thereafter, he retracted his statement, saying he had no problems with his cellmate and felt safe.
Tartaglione stated that he had handed the note over to his lawyers. He noted that if Epstein had continued to blame him, the document could have served as a defense in court. Handwriting experts were later brought in to determine the authenticity of the document.
According to reports, the letter was later classified by a federal court as part of a separate criminal case. Although Tartaglione's lawyers assessed the note as authentic, the basis for this conclusion has not been disclosed.
Analysts believe that these new details could raise further questions surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein case and reignite debates regarding his death.
