Amidst the tense relations between Iran and the United States, Tehran has officially put forward a new peace initiative. The Iranian government has presented the US with a 14-point plan aimed at ending the conflict.
It is reported that this document was developed in response to a 9-point proposal previously put forward by Washington. While the US plan envisioned a two-month temporary truce, Iran insists that the matter should be fully resolved within one month without delay.
What conditions has Iran put forward?
Tehran has set a number of important requirements in its proposal, including:
- A guarantee of non-aggression from the US;
- Withdrawal of American troops from border regions;
- Lifting of the naval blockade;
- Return of frozen assets;
- Removal of economic sanctions.
In addition, Iran has demanded compensation for damages incurred and an end to military operations in the region, including the cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon. A proposal to introduce a new operational mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz has also been put forward.
Trump's response
Donald Trump stated that he would review the plan in the coming days. However, he noted that the likelihood of the proposal being accepted is low, while criticizing Iran's past actions.
Negotiations and developments
According to reports, if Washington provides a positive assessment of this plan, Iran is prepared to hold the next round of negotiations in Islamabad in the near future.
As a reminder, tensions between the parties escalated on February 28. Subsequently, a ceasefire agreement was announced on April 8. However, the initial negotiations ended without results, and the situation escalated once again.
At present, the international community is closely monitoring how these negotiations will conclude.
