Bear climbing an utility pole stuns the internet

A video of a massive bear stuck atop an utility pole in New Mexico, USA, has gone viral on social media, leaving thousands of internet users amazed. The footage of the unusual incident quickly became a sensation and sparked widespread discussion.

The video X was posted on the social network and later reshared by the U.S. Department of the Interior. The published clip caught the attention of tens of thousands of viewers. The department added a humorous comment to their post, writing: “We said we support American energy dominance, but this isn't what we meant.”.

In the verified video, the bear can be seen at the top of an utility pole in the Gladstone area of New Mexico, breathing heavily, gripping a crossbar with its front paws while its hind legs dangle below.

The person who filmed the video called 911 and said, “I’d like to report a bear on top of a power pole.”, to which the dispatcher replied, noting that they had received similar calls before, “We’ve notified the Department of Game and Fish, but they said there’s nothing they can do right now.”.

The operator explained that if experts tried to tranquilize the bear, there was a very high risk it would fall from the height and die. Consequently, resolving the situation safely was not easy.

Shannon Mullins, who witnessed the incident, told Storyful that she spotted the scene while driving from New Mexico to Oklahoma on Highway 56.

“We couldn’t believe what we were seeing at first. So we decided to turn around and take another look.”, she said.

According to her, they initially thought the bear was dead, but upon getting closer, they realized the animal was still alive.

Unfortunately, after some time, the bear passed away. There is no official information yet on exactly how it died. However, the event generated significant interest on social media and sparked broad discussions about wildlife rescue capabilities.
