General Motors (GM) has unveiled a new reinforcement method to fix roof flex issues in the GMC Canyon, a problem that has been particularly noticeable in automated car washes. Many owners have reported a loud popping noise when the high-pressure air dryers at the end of the wash cycle apply force to the vehicle's roof.
This issue affects 2023-2025 GMC Canyon models that do not have a sunroof (RPO CAC) and were produced before February 3, 2025. To resolve the issue, GM has developed a structural reinforcement system involving the installation of reinforcement panels and a longitudinal stiffening rib inside the roof.
Steps of the Repair Process:
Five reinforcement panels are installed inside the front section of the roof.
A stiffening rib is fitted, but additional holes must be drilled using it as a template.
Structural adhesive is applied to the rib’s ends for extra durability.
A vibration-dampening material is added along the rib to reduce noise.
The rib is riveted to the roof, securing the structure before reinstalling the ceiling liner.
With this solution, roof stability is significantly improved, preventing excessive flexing and eliminating unnecessary noise during automated car washes.
Owners experiencing ongoing issues after this fix are advised to contact a GM service center. Detailed repair procedures and required parts are listed under Service Bulletin 23-NA-209. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
