Gerard Depardieu faces trial again over sexual assault

Famous French actor Gerard Depardieu, 76, is once again facing trial on charges of rape and sexual assault. This was reported by The Guardian.

The complaint against Depardieu was filed by actress Charlotte Arnould, the daughter of his former friend, who said she had known the actor since childhood. According to her, in the summer of 2018, at the age of 22, she was assaulted twice at the actor’s home in Paris. Afterwards, the actress turned to the gendarmerie in southern France.

“I went through seven years of horror and torment. It was difficult to comprehend the full weight of this process. But after filing the complaint, I felt relieved,” she wrote on social media.

Depardieu, however, strongly denies all accusations, insisting that everything happened with mutual consent. In the autumn of 2023, in an open letter published in Le Figaro newspaper, he wrote: “I have never, under any circumstances, raped a woman.”

However, the actor had previously been found guilty in other cases. For offensive and harassing behavior towards the artist Amélie, a 53-year-old producer, and a 33-year-old assistant director, he had already received a court sentence.

In May 2025, Depardieu was sentenced to 18 months of suspended imprisonment for violence against two women. In addition, he was deprived of civil rights for two years, including the right to participate in elections. The actor was also included in the registry of persons convicted of sexual offenses.
