Venice Festival: Jarmusch Triumphed, Safdie Won “Silver Lion”

The 82nd Venice International Film Festival has announced its winners. Famous American director Jim Jarmusch’s film “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother” was awarded the main prize — the “Golden Lion,” writes Variety.

For the first time in his career, Jarmusch won the “Golden Lion.” His new film consists of three stories depicting relationships between families and children in the United States, Ireland, and France. The movie stars Mayim Bialik, Cate Blanchett, and Adam Driver.

Also, Benny Safdie, who previously worked with his brother Josh, received the “Silver Lion” award for “Best Director.” In Venice, he presented the sports drama “Crash Machine,” dedicated to the fate of MMA fighter Mark Kerr, who was popular in the 2000s. During the premiere, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who played the lead role, could not hold back his tears.

Another important prize of the festival went to Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania’s film “The Voice of Hind Rajab.” The work tells the story of the rescue of a six-year-old girl in Gaza.
