Shahriyor got married at the age of 34. On July 11, 2023, he married a girl named Nurangiz. The wedding was held in Samarkand and many representatives of show business attended it.
“My surname is unique”
— The meaning of the surname Argonov should be asked from elders (laughs). It may have come from the word “arqon” (rope). Interestingly, there is also a chemical element called “argon,” he says.
Today Shahriyor is considered one of the most in-demand singers not only in Tashkent but also in Samarkand. He performs at weddings in the capital for approximately $600, while in Samarkand his one-hour performance is valued at $4500.
“I do not have musical education”
Shahriyor was born on April 15, 1989, in Samarkand and grew up in an environment where representatives of different nationalities live.
— I practice vocals, but I have not received musical education. That is, I did not study in college or conservatory. I studied for two years at the faculty of pop acting, and my practice was at the Operetta Theater. Many say “musical education is necessary,” but art is not an exact science. It cannot be learned in a few years. I want to live within art all my life and understand it. For me, it is like reading a unique book in the world, and I don’t want to finish it quickly, he says.
The singer, who initially started his career in rap, also explained that today he pays more attention to national and modern pop music:
— When I entered art, I was 15–16 years old. At that time my interest in rap was very strong and I fully devoted myself to it. Over time, I began to understand myself and a desire appeared to create in other styles as well, he says.
Why did he move away from cinema?
Shahriyor is known not only as a singer but also as an actor. The films “Bo‘rilar” and “Tashlandiq” in which he participated were well received by fans.
— I did not receive criticism for my role in “Tashlandiq.” Ordinary viewers appreciated my performance. In recent years, films lack inspiration and impact. Many movies are light and do not have deep meaning, he said.
Trip to the USA and style changes
Shahriyor traveled to the USA in 2011. According to him, the main purpose was to change the environment and feel being abroad.
— To be honest, I cannot say that my current songs are liked by everyone. On social networks there are comments like “your songs are not like before.” But I have not changed drastically; I am updating my style step by step. Rap is my life, I became known exactly in this direction, he says.
Work and life in the USA
During his second trip to the USA, Shahriyor decided to work:
— Providing for the family is a man’s duty. You cannot just wait for inspiration. That is why I tried myself in other fields as well. I worked in logistics. There is also demand for Uzbek artists in the USA, he says.
“They criticized my wide pants”
— At the beginning of my career, I experimented a lot with my appearance. I do not like monotony. Now I dress in a modern classic style. My close friend played a big role in this. Previously even my relatives criticized my wide pants (laughs). Today I have completely changed, he says.
“I compete with myself”
Some people compare Shahriyor with singer Shohrux.
— If we meet at events, we greet each other. But he is not my competitor. I only compete with myself, he says.
Life lessons
— Life consists of various trials and joys. Every situation educates a person. I used to be quick-tempered and emotional, now I am much calmer, says the singer.
