The Chairman of the Health Committee of the State Duma of Russia, Sergey Leonov, called the practice of deliberately infecting children with chickenpox - "chickenpox nights" - completely meaningless and dangerous. He announced this in an interview with TASS.
Leonov emphasized that such measures contribute to a wider spread of the infection. "It's better for a child that everything happens on time. If he needs to overcome the disease, it should be done collectively, naturally," the deputy said.
According to him, the participation of children from different communities in such "nights" increases the risk of transmission of the virus to other groups and leads to mass infection.
As a reminder, the Izvestiya newspaper previously reported a sharp increase in chickenpox cases in several regions of Russia due to vaccine shortages. For example, in Yamal this figure has grown by 67 percent, and in Bashkortostan - more than twofold.
