Well-known Portuguese dermatologist Andrey Malvestiti emphasized that nail condition is an important indicator in assessing human health, reports [Diario de Noticias]. According to him, any changes in the nails can be an early warning of serious processes occurring in the body, especially dangerous diseases.
As Malvestiti noted, people often don't pay attention to small changes in nail color. However, such symptoms can sometimes be the initial manifestations of serious diseases, such as cancer or circulatory system disorders. For example, white or purple spots on the nail are usually associated with injury or rupture of small blood vessels and are not dangerous.
However, if black, brown, or gray stripes or spots appear on the nail, this condition is certainly a serious reason to see a dermatologist. Because in some cases, such symptoms may indicate the early stage of melanoma - skin cancer.
Also, the separation or slight clearing of the nail plate indicates problems in the body. This condition may be the result of fungal infections, exposure to chemicals, or even allergic reactions related to the immune system.
According to the dermatologist, the most common complaint among patients is brittleness, loss of shine, and shattering of the nails. This can be a natural process in old age, but sometimes it can also indicate thyroid dysfunction, slowed blood circulation, or iron deficiency anemia. It is also possible that such cases are associated with turtle disease, diabetes, or atopic dermatitis.
Malvestiti advised people to pay regular attention to their nails and take any changes in them seriously. He believes that early diagnosis is the most effective way to maintain health, where nails work like a "natural signal system" given by nature.
