In Kashkadarya, a daughter-in-law unable to endure mother-in-law's abuse takes her own life

A tragic incident in the Chiroqchi district of the Kashkadarya region has drawn public attention. According to the court verdict, a daughter-in-law who had been subjected to prolonged physical and psychological abuse by her mother-in-law ultimately took her own life. This was reported by Supreme Court spokesperson Aziz Obidov.

Court documents state that the 47-year-old woman regularly insulted her daughter-in-law, beat her multiple times, and drove her out of the house between 2022 and October 2025. It was also determined that she constantly exerted psychological pressure on her daughter-in-law under various pretexts.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the mother-in-law restricted the daughter-in-law from communicating with her parents and forbade her from using a phone. In some instances, she reportedly dragged the daughter-in-law by her hair into the street and caused bodily harm by striking her face and various parts of her body.

According to reports, on October 2, 2025, the daughter-in-law took her own life in the barn of the house where she lived. The investigation concluded that this decision was caused by the long-term physical and psychological abuse she had endured.

As a result of the case heard in the Chiroqchi District Court for Criminal Cases, the mother-in-law was found guilty of driving the daughter-in-law to suicide.

The court sentenced her to 5 years of imprisonment, applying Article 103, Part 2, Clause "a" and Article 57 of the Criminal Code. This case has once again highlighted the severe consequences that domestic violence and constant psychological pressure can lead to.
