In the territory of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, a shocking and noteworthy traffic accident occurred, which sparked wide public discussion. On July 30, "Uzbekistan Railways" reported that a freight "KamAZ" truck tried to move in front of a moving passenger train and caused an unfortunate collision.
According to the report, the incident happened at the 592nd kilometer of the railway located between the “Baday” and “Beruniy” stations. Most regrettably, this crossing was unguarded, and it seems the driver assessed it with serious carelessness, reported the press service of "Uzbekistan Railways."
Based on initial inspection results, it became known that the “KamAZ” driver, despite seeing the moving train, attempted to cross the railway and grossly violated traffic rules. Although the train driver tried to stop, a collision with the truck occurred.
The collision was very strong — there were 150 passengers on the train, and due to the impact, the locomotive derailed. Fortunately, it was reported that none of the passengers were injured. Since the train was moving from Andijan to Kungrad, 6 buses were deployed to take passengers to their destination.
Experts, law enforcement officers, and railway system workers arrived at the scene. An investigation is currently underway. According to the press service of the Department of Security on Transport and Tourist Facilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, by 17:29 the technical issue in the train was resolved, and it continued its journey towards the Beruniy station.
The identity of the truck driver, the presence of a license, compliance with rules, or technical malfunction issues have not yet been officially disclosed. However, this incident once again showed how dangerous it is to leave railway crossings unguarded.
Responsible agencies are considering installing a barrier, traffic light, or inspector supervision to ensure safety at the crossing.
At the same time, the actions taken to keep passengers safe and to quickly resume the train movement deserve high praise. However, this incident once again reminds us all of the importance of vigilance and discipline.
