In Tashkent, a criminal group was detained for creating "apk" viruses specifically for Android devices and embezzling citizens' funds. This was reported by the information service of the Cyber Security Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the information, within the framework of the preventive measures "Safe Cyber Space," a large-scale operational operation was conducted with the participation of employees of the central office of the ministry and the Tashkent city administration. During the event, it was revealed that the group members illegally obtained SMS messages, calls, and contact information by preparing special malicious "apk" files for devices running the Android operating system and distributing them to citizens.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the virus was connected to special Telegram groups, which included 11 people from different countries. They regularly stole and distributed citizens' personal data among themselves.
As a result of the conducted operational-search activities, five members of the criminal group were detained. During the inspection of their houses and telephone devices, it was found that about 3 billion soums were stolen from more than 130 citizens.
Currently, cases have been initiated against these individuals under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code, and the suspects have been detained in accordance with procedural order. At the same time, special operational-search measures are continuing throughout the republic in order to identify other persons connected with the criminal group.
