On September 24–26, 2025, a major event aimed at increasing the financial literacy of the population and developing a reading culture was held at the Alisher Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan in the capital – the “Bank and Enlightenment” forum.
The forum was organized by the Central Bank initiative in cooperation with commercial banks, publishing houses, the Publishers Association, and several organizations. Initiatives aimed at enhancing people’s knowledge at the intersection of finance and enlightenment were discussed.
Within the forum, nine cooperation memorandums were signed between banks and publishers. In particular, Xalq Bank - Asaxiy Books, Mikrokreditbank - “IjodNashr”, Sanoatqurilishbank - “Mutolaa” project, Turonbank - Gutenberg, Aloqabank - Tingla AI and Cosmos Books, TBC Bank - Asian Book House, National Bank - “Akademnashr”, InFinBank - “Yangi asr avlodi”, and Anorbank - Farengeyt Press reached agreements on joint projects.
One of the most important directions of the event was the neighborhood libraries project. This initiative, inspired by Shahnoza Navro‘zova, founder of the “Kutubxonachi qiz” Telegram channel, who opened the first neighborhood library in Bukhara region, was supported in 2024 by the Central Bank and commercial banks.
While 109 libraries were opened in neighborhoods in Tashkent city in May last year, today their number has reached 116 across the country. Seventeen commercial banks participated in the project. For example, National Bank sponsored 16, Xalq Bank 12, Ipak Yo‘li Bank 9, Turonbank 7 neighborhood libraries.
One thousand books were provided to each library, further expanding the population’s opportunities for gaining knowledge and reading.
Through the “Bank and Enlightenment” forum, new steps were taken in society by combining financial literacy and spirituality. The harmonization of financial potential with enlightenment was emphasized as creating a solid foundation for future generations.
