Today, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated all teachers and mentors working in the field of education in our country, as well as dedicated workers in the field, on the occasion of "Teacher and Mentor Day." We perceived this holiday greeting as a high recognition and respect for the hard work of the intelligentsia of our country.
In this holiday greeting, the large-scale reforms implemented in the field of education in our country in recent years and their effectiveness were noted. The positive changes achieved as a result of the reforms and measures implemented in the field of higher education were especially noted.
Today, priority attention is being paid to raising the higher education system in our country to a qualitatively new level. This is clearly confirmed by the fact that as a result of the fundamental reforms carried out over the past eight years, the number of universities has increased from 77 to 202, and the number of students has increased from 250 thousand to 1.5 million. At the same time, the opportunity for young people to choose for admission to universities has been expanded. This is of great importance in increasing the coverage of young people with higher education.
Another important point. In recent years, the salaries of professors and teachers working in higher educational institutions have been significantly increased. This indicates that the value of teachers' hard work is increasing in educational institutions. As a result, it is noteworthy that today in our country, professors and teachers make up the main part of scientists conducting research in certain areas of science and achieving specific results.
In this holiday greeting, it was especially emphasized that improving the working and living conditions of education workers remains the most priority direction of reforms. In particular, starting from the new year, teachers of the highest category with at least 15 years of experience will be reimbursed 25 percent of the down payment on mortgage loans, it is planned to introduce a 30 percent discount on the contract amount for children of teachers who have entered state universities in the next academic year, and teachers will be allocated preferential loans of up to 10 million soums for the purchase of modern computer equipment.
Of course, such attention and recognition not only inspire representatives of all spheres of education, but also impose a special responsibility. And we, the educators, are ready to use all our strength and energy to justify this high trust of the President with our own labor and selflessness.
