According to Turkish media reports, the suspect in the murder committed in Istanbul was apprehended in the Navoi region of Uzbekistan. Previously, it was reported that in one of the Turkish megacities with the highest population of Uzbeks — the Fatih district of Istanbul — 36-year-old Zulayho E. (name changed) was found dead in her home, stabbed in the throat.

The suspect, 46-year-old Akmaljon Rustamovich S., managed to flee Turkey and hide in his home in the Navoi region of Uzbekistan. According to authorities, he was detained by Uzbek law enforcement on September 27.

It is reported that the crime occurred on September 20 at 21:30 in the Oksaroy neighborhood of Fatih, Istanbul. The Uzbek citizen, whose real name is Halimakhon Odilovna Akhmadova, was found dead in her home with a stab wound to her throat. Police, investigators, and paramedics arrived at the scene, and surveillance camera footage was reviewed.

The suspect admitted that he was initially drunk, had traveled to Turkey to see the woman, and then returned. He also stated that he had blackmailed the woman for money, which led to the murder. The trial of the suspect is planned to be held in Uzbekistan.

This incident has caused great shock and horror among the Uzbek community in Istanbul, and the quick arrest of the suspect in Navoi demonstrates the effectiveness of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the country’s consulate.
