Former Afghan parliamentarian arrested in Tashkent

Former Deputy Speaker of the Afghan Parliament and major businessman Abbas Ibrahimzoda was arrested in Tashkent. This was reported by the Amu publication.

The former deputy elected from Afghanistan's Balkh province, head of the group of companies he founded, Ibrohimzada Group, was detained based on numerous complaints from business rivals. Despite placing more than $350,000 as collateral, Ibrahimzoda remains in custody.

It turned out that Abbos Ibragimzade managed more than 20 companies in his group, owned a private TV channel in Balkh, and worked extensively in the fields of education and charity. The charitable foundation established by the group is aimed at improving women's literacy.

Officials of Uzbekistan have not yet reacted to this arrest.

At the same time, it is known that Uzbekistan and Afghanistan established a joint representative office last year to assist entrepreneurs. This event is expected to contribute to the further expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of transport, logistics, trade, and industry.
