A 55-year-old man from Namangan region has been sentenced for participating in an armed conflict in Russia. РИА Новости reported this with reference to court documents.
According to the investigation, he traveled to Russia in June 2023 to work. However, instead of obtaining a labor patent, he was offered to sign a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense. In July of that year, he signed a one-year contract and received the call sign “Ded” (Grandpa).
The defendant served in Belgorod, where he mainly repaired military equipment and was not sent to combat zones. During his service, he received a one-time payment of 700,000 rubles and a monthly salary of 150,000–200,000 rubles. He sent part of the money — about 15,000 USD — to his family through the “Zolotaya Korona” money transfer system.
In May 2024, he left his job due to health issues and returned to Uzbekistan. Shortly after, his name appeared on the Telegram channel of the “I Want to Live” project, which listed Uzbeks who took part in the war. In 2025, he was arrested.
The court found him guilty under Article 154, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (“Mercenary activity”) and sentenced him to two years in a general-regime colony.
