In the Andijan region, individuals involved in the circulation of counterfeit money have been exposed. This was reported by the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to the information, during an operational event conducted in the Qurgontepa district, citizen A.I. and his accomplices, acting by prior agreement, attempted to deceive people by selling counterfeit money.
According to investigation materials, they were caught red-handed while selling counterfeit money worth 19 million 800 thousand soms to citizen K.A. for 10 million soms.
The operation was carried out jointly by employees of the district division of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, the State Security Service, and the Internal Affairs Department. As a result, another criminal scheme related to counterfeiting money was uncovered.
It was reported that the detainees intended to introduce the fake banknotes into circulation by imitating their authenticity. According to investigators’ preliminary version, they might have planned to carry out similar operations in other regions as well.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 176 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (manufacturing or circulating counterfeit money, excise stamps, or securities). Investigative measures are underway.
Experts note that although the system for detecting counterfeit money in the country has been strengthened in recent years, some criminals still attempt to earn income through forged banknotes.
Law enforcement agencies advise citizens to be cautious when receiving cash and to immediately contact the authorities if any suspicious situations arise.
This incident once again reminds citizens of the importance of improving financial literacy and attentiveness, since counterfeit money is not only a personal loss but also an economic threat.
