1,392 drivers caught drunk in Kashkadarya in 9 months

In Kashkadarya region, road safety has once again come under public attention. During the first nine months of 2025, 1,392 people were held accountable for driving vehicles while intoxicated, the regional court reported.

According to the data, 15 of those punished were women, and 71 were citizens over the age of 60. This shows that not only young drivers but also elderly people attempted to evade the law.

A drunk driver — a hidden danger on the road

As clearly stated in the national legislation, driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotic substances is not only an administrative offense but also a serious threat to public safety. One drunk driver can destroy several lives — hence, penalties are being increasingly tightened.

Stricter law: license suspension and fines

According to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. O‘RQ–1033 adopted on February 20, 2025, amendments were made to Articles 131 and 136 of the Administrative Responsibility Code.

According to the new version:

  • A driver caught driving under the influence will lose their license for three years and pay a fine equal to 40 times the base calculation amount (BCA);

  • If the offense is committed by someone without a driving license, they will be fined 50 times the BCA or face up to 15 days of administrative arrest;

  • A driver who refuses to undergo a sobriety test will also lose their driving rights for up to three years and pay a fine of 30 times the BCA.

Behind the numbers — the risk of tragedy

In Kashkadarya, such cases continue to rise yearly. In 2024, 1,697 drunk drivers were recorded, while in the first nine months of 2025, this figure reached 1,392 — meaning that, on average, 5–6 people sit behind the wheel intoxicated every day.

Of those caught, 1,157 were fined, 980 lost their licenses, and 235 received administrative arrest. Among them were 15 women, 71 citizens over 60, and 148 foreign nationals.

Under Article 136, 260 people refused the medical examination — 225 were fined and 35 were arrested.

Every steering wheel — a symbol of responsibility

Experts emphasize: a vehicle is not just a means of transport but a symbol of responsibility. Driving while intoxicated endangers not only the driver’s life but also the lives of many others.

Order, safety, and life on the roads are not merely legal issues — they are reflections of social consciousness and culture.
