In the Urgut district of the Samarkand region, a 43-year-old woman, a mother of five, was prosecuted for cultivating cannabis, a prohibited plant, on her land. By the court's verdict, he was sentenced to imprisonment.
According to the data, a woman named M.U., born in 1982, planted cannabis seeds in her yard in mid-April 2025. Thinking of them as "flower seeds," he nurtured them and grew 229 plants.
During an operational event held on August 4, 2025, these plants with narcotic properties were documented as material evidence from his yard. According to the conclusion of the forensic center, the cultivated plants were found to contain tetrahydrocannabinol - the narcotic substance cannabis.
In court, the woman fully confessed to her actions and stated that she did not act consciously. According to him, he bought tomato seedlings and flower seeds at the farmers' market, but then no flowers came from them. "I thought they were flowers, I didn't know that I had planted any narcotic plants. If I had known, I wouldn't have cared for her," she said in court.
According to M.U., her husband works as a craftsman in other regions, while she was busy with household chores at home. He also stated that he had no intention of selling the plant and sincerely regretted his actions, requesting a lenient sentence from the court.
The Urgut District Criminal Court found the woman guilty under part 1 of Article 270 (cultivation of prohibited crops) and part 2 of Article 273 (production and storage of narcotic drugs) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.
According to the court verdict, he was sentenced to 3 years and 8 months of imprisonment and will serve his sentence in a general regime colony.
Currently, the verdict has not entered into legal force, and the parties have the right to appeal.
This situation once again calls on the population, especially those engaged in agriculture, to be cautious, to identify the source of any "flower seeds" - because growing a plant prohibited by law entails criminal liability.
