Uzbekistan offers rewards for information on drug trafficking
The government of Uzbekistan has announced new measures to strengthen the fight against illegal drug trafficking. The head of state signed a decree that envisions tougher penalties for crimes in this area and the introduction of a system to financially motivate citizens who assist law enforcement agencies.

According to the new rules, the government must develop and approve a mechanism for paying rewards within two months. Citizens who report drug-related crimes or assist in uncovering them will be eligible to receive a "decent financial reward."

The personal safety and anonymity of informants will be ensured, which is expected to encourage greater civic engagement. This initiative is considered a new element of the national anti-drug strategy.

In addition to introducing tougher penalties and a reward system, attention is being given to the use of modern technologies and engaging the younger generation. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and digital technology sectors have been tasked with organizing a special hackathon by July 1, 2026, to develop software solutions using artificial intelligence to identify and block online platforms designed for drug distribution.

This event will help attract talented IT specialists to address this pressing social issue. The most promising projects presented during the hackathon will be supported and implemented in law enforcement practices, which will boost the effectiveness of the fight against cyber-drug trafficking.

Thus, the country's anti-drug policy is taking on a multi-faceted approach. On the one hand, legislation is being reinforced against individuals involved in drug trafficking, and on the other hand, conditions are being created to encourage society's active participation in ensuring law and order.

By combining repressive and preventive measures with technological innovations, the aim is to create a safe environment and promote a healthier society. One of the world's most expensive drugs is not a plant product but a synthetic substance—LSD.

The price of this substance on the black market can reach several thousand dollars per gram, making it more expensive than gold.
