The new high-speed rail mainline planned for construction between the cities of Tashkent and Samarkand is expected to reduce the travel time between the two capitals to one and a half hours. The publication "Spot" reported this, citing the negotiations of the Ministry of Transport.
"Using existing lines is complicated"
Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriyev emphasized that the technical and economic substantiation of the project was prepared with the help of a grant from the Korea Eximbank. The transit capability of the existing railways in our country is limited, because, besides passenger transport, large freight transport also passes through them. "It is complicated to use one line for both freight and passenger transport at the same time. For this reason, constructing a separate high-speed rail network is of vital importance," — said Choriyev.
The new high-speed line will connect the new international airport in Tashkent and continue to Samarkand. The recently purchased 6 Hyundai Rotem trains will begin to be brought in from the end of this year, and from the beginning of next year will be commissioned for service to passengers.
Fastest option: 86 minutes!
On October 24, the South Korean company «Saman Engineering» presented 3 variants of the Tashkent-Samarkand high-speed rail.
The fastest — in the first variant the length of the railway is 282 km, the travel time constitutes 1 hour 26 minutes (average speed 185.7 km/h). The construction of 74 bridges and 3 tunnels is planned within the framework of this project. In the remaining variants, the distance increases (291.7 km and 302 km), and the time spent increases from 1 hour 33 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes.
We recall that the agreement on starting the development of the technical and economic substantiation of the project was finalized in February of this year with a South Korean consortium. Significantly, influential financial institutions like the China Eximbank and the European Investment Bank have shown interest in financing this major project, including the railway itself.
