The number of people brought to administrative responsibility for domestic violence in Uzbekistan over the past 10 months has been announced. According to the press secretary of the Supreme Court, Aziz Obidov, 10,003 people were brought to justice under Article 59-2 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility. This article provides for fines or administrative arrest for actions such as obstruction of education, health and labor rights, insulting honor, causing damage to property, intimidation, beating, or inflicting minor bodily harm.
At the same time, a survey of women subjected to violence also revealed a serious situation: every fifth woman considered suicide. In Andijan, this figure was 33.3%, while in Navoi it drops to 6% - this means a large difference in the level of mental pressure across the regions.
Women try to cope with stress mainly through physical activity and housework (29.2%), some prefer to be alone (23.9%), 22.5% react through emotional outbursts. Only 11.1 percent of women find relief in talking to their relatives. 6.7 percent said that they had difficulty coping with stress - this indicates a high need for targeted psychological and social assistance.
In order to reduce cases of domestic violence in society, not only punitive measures, but also systemic prevention, psychological support, and information work are of great importance.
