The real reasons behind the thick fog have been revealed

In recent days, a steady increase in the influence of a cold anticyclone has been observed across the territory of Uzbekistan, and this process is projected to persist until December 5, 2025. According to the Special Commission, the current sharp changes in weather conditions, especially the increase in dense fog, are closely related to natural meteorological factors.

It is noted that since November 29, the cold anticyclone has intensified, causing an increase in atmospheric pressure and a decrease in air temperature. As a result, cold weather is observed at night, and mild warm weather during the day. Under such conditions, the formation of morning fog, characteristic of cold anticyclones, is highly probable. Long-term inversion leads to an increase in the concentration of dust, smoke, and fine particulate matter in the air, as well as to a further intensification of dense fog phenomena. This process is associated with the fact that particles in the air do not rise to the upper layers, but accumulate in the lower air layers.

The Commission emphasized that significant work has been carried out in recent days to reduce factors affecting the atmosphere, and this work continues to this day. Large-scale raids are being conducted in Tashkent and its surrounding areas to identify and eliminate pollution sources. The work carried out on November 24-28 showed the following results:

For greenhouses:

A total of 1,449 greenhouses were studied. The activities of 67 of them have been suspended. Administrative protocols were drawn up for 403 individuals, and technical specifications for connecting to gas networks were issued to 19 farms.

By construction objects:

A total of 53 illegal construction sites were identified in Tashkent. 34 of them have been temporarily suspended. 186 cases of recorded atmospheric pollution were documented, and 188 individuals were brought to administrative responsibility. Water sprayers have also been installed at 51 construction sites.

For motor vehicles:

It was noted that 837 drivers who transported open cargo and 206 drivers who caused excessive damage will be fined.

Additional environmental measures:

On a city scale, 77 streets and 165 public places have been moistened. 121 km of ditches were cleaned. 126 fountains have been commissioned. At the same time, 54 cases of illegal sand and gravel extraction from rivers in the Tashkent region were identified.

As a result of these comprehensive measures, the level of air pollution has decreased to a certain extent. In particular, the PM2.5 indicator:

November 24 - 171 μg/m3,

November 25 - 152 μg/m3,

November 26 - 140 μg/m3,

November 27 - 111 μg/m3,

November 28 - decreased to 97 μg/m3.

However, due to the fact that the country is currently under the influence of a cold anticyclone, the phenomenon of inversion is intensifying again, and the accumulation of small particles in the air is observed. Such a process is natural and slows down the process of air self-purification.

Therefore, government agencies are carrying out systematic work on both short-term measures and long-term solutions. Working groups formed by a special commission are conducting round-the-clock raids aimed at identifying sources of harmful emissions and their elimination.
