The future of Uzbekistan's national team captain and top scorer, Eldor Shomurodov, is expected to be decided before the winter transfer window closes.
Currently, Shomurodov is training with the team. The club's management needs to make a decision about his future. According to Italian media, several clubs are interested in signing the Uzbek forward.
These include: Empoli, Cagliari, Venezia, and Parma. All of these clubs are offering to take the 29-year-old on loan with the option to buy, but "Roma" prefers to include a mandatory purchase clause at the end of the season.
Empoli leads the race
According to Vocegiallorossa.it, Empoli is the frontrunner in the race for Shomurodov. Il Corriere della Sera reports that negotiations between the clubs are progressing positively.
Cagliari awaits changes
Cagliari, however, is waiting for internal changes before finalizing the transfer. The club plans to sell experienced striker Gianluca Lapadula to make room for Shomurodov. The Peruvian player is reportedly in talks with several Serie B clubs.
Former footballer Tiziano De Patre believes Shomurodov would strengthen Cagliari:
Eldor is well-suited for Serie A and has already shown his potential in Sardinia last season. While Lapadula and Pavoletti are excellent players, their advancing age makes it harder for them to maintain top physical form, - said De Patre.
Roma's plans
Roma’s sporting director Florian Ghisolfi is awaiting final offers from Cagliari and Empoli. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Roman club is also considering signing a new central forward.
Their priority is 22-year-old Arnaud Kalimuendo from Rennes, but the French club’s €20 million asking price is a sticking point for Roma.
Eldor Shomurodov’s future remains uncertain, and he may finish the season with Roma. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
