World Cup: Uzbeks will surprise everyone!
The 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by three countries at once - the USA, Canada and Mexico, is expected to be of historic importance for Uzbek football.

The senior World Cup is the only competition that Uzbek football players have not been able to conquer. After our compatriots participated in the Paris Olympics last year, the only tournament that we have not reached is the World Cup.

At the moment, the Uzbek national team has a better chance than ever to qualify for the World Cup. In the third stage of the Asian qualifying tournament, our players are in second place in their group. We are three points behind the leader Iran and on March 25 we will compete with the Persians.

Our guys need to score four points in the remaining three matches in this stage to open the way to North America. For now, everything is in the hands of our national team, led by Timur Kapadze.

The possibility of the Uzbek national team qualifying for the World Cup for the first time is also being discussed abroad.

In particular, the famous Russian specialist Valery Nepomnyashchy, who once managed the national team and Pakhtakor, stressed that he is confident that our players will successfully pass the qualifying stage.

- In recent years, the Uzbek youth team has been achieving serious results on the international stage. Last year, they also participated in the Olympic Games.

There is a lot of attention in the country to youth football, they have grown and developed, and this has also begun to bear fruit for the senior team.

Some Uzbek players, including Eldor Shomurodov and Abdukоdir Khusanov, are playing in Europe.

On the one hand, Uzbekistan's qualification for the World Cup is a surprise to everyone, but on the other hand, it is exactly what it should be.

This will be the result of good work, and I support this worthy achievement, - said 81-year-old Valery Nepomnyashchy.

It should be recalled that the Russian coach worked as the head coach of Pakhtakor and the Uzbekistan national team in 2006-2007. In addition, he became famous in football history for successfully managing the Cameroon national team at the 1990 World Cup.

Valery Nepomnyashchy began his long-term coaching career in 1996 as a player-coach for the then-Spartak team in Samarkand. During his coaching career, which lasted until 2018, he worked in a number of clubs in Russia, Turkmenistan, Turkey, China, Japan, and South Korea.
