
At the Club World Cup to be held in the USA from June 14 to July 13, 2024, Uzbekistan will be proud not only of its players, but also of its referees. Three Uzbek referee candidates were included in the official list of referees announced by FIFA.
Historical challenge: Tantashev and his team at the World Cup
According to official FIFA information, our internationally recognized and experienced referee Ilgiz Tantashev will serve as the main referee at the Club World Cup.
Along with him, two assistant referees - Timur Gainullin and Andrey Tsapenko - will also officiate at the tournament. This is a high recognition not only for these referees, but also for the history of Uzbek football refereeing.
First championship in a new format
The great tournament - the Club World Cup - will be held for the first time this year in a new format. It will:
- 32 world clubs will participate;
- The competition will be held in the USA from June 14 to July 13;
- There will be group and play-off stages similar to the classic World Cup format.
This, in turn, is a great responsibility and opportunity for the referees.
Khusanov - striving for world championship with Manchester City
It is noteworthy that the defender of the Uzbekistan national team Abdukodir Khusanov will also participate in this tournament. His club - the English champion Manchester City - will fight for the championship.
For Abdukodir, this tournament will be an opportunity to further demonstrate himself on the international stage and be in the spotlight of world football.
Uzbekistan at the World Cup — both on the field and as a referee
The participation of an Uzbek player and three referees at the same time in such a major tournament is a matter of pride and responsibility for our football. This is a sign of the maturity of not only individuals, but also of the national football school.
