Eldor Shomurodov’s record-setting Roma: the road to the Champions League is opening!
Roma, which began the Italian championship season with great difficulties, has started achieving excellent results in the decisive stage and has become a serious contender for a Champions League spot. Under the guidance of Claudio Ranieri, the second manager after José Mourinho, the Romans earned an important 1-0 victory over Fiorentina at home in the 35th round.

In this match too, our compatriot, striker Eldor Shomurodov, played a decisive role. Just seconds before the end of the first half, Shomurodov delivered a superb header-assist, and his Ukrainian teammate Artem Dovbyk placed the ball into Fiorentina’s net, guarded by David De Gea.

This sole goal not only secured three crucial points for Roma, but also marked two important records.

First, it was Roma’s ninth 1-0 win of the season — a new record among the top-5 European leagues this year. According to Opta statistics, no team in England, Spain, Germany, France, or Italy has managed as many narrow wins this season. Eight of these wins were under Ranieri; one came under former coach Ivan Jurić.

Secondly, Roma’s unbeaten streak deserves attention. Since December 2024, the team hasn’t lost in 19 matches: winning 14 and drawing 5. This is also a top-5 league record — no other team has achieved such a run.

Shomurodov has directly contributed to many of these victories. In round 33, he scored the winning goal against Verona. In the next two matches — against Inter and Fiorentina — his assists led to further 1-0 wins, raising the total to nine.

This equals a long-standing Roma club record. According to historical data, Roma also achieved nine 1-0 wins in the 1965/66 season under Oronzo Pugliese and in 1974/75 under Nils Liedholm.

Now, Ranieri’s team is on the verge of setting a new absolute club record. Winning just one of the remaining three matches — against Atalanta, Milan, or Torino — by 1-0 would be enough to write a new chapter in history.

To note, Eldor Shomurodov has played 24 matches this season, scoring against Empoli, Monza, Juventus, and Verona, and providing assists against Bologna, Monza, Inter, and Fiorentina. His role in Roma’s Champions League push is vital.

These great results bring joy to Roma fans and bring the club closer to the highest level of European competition. And for Uzbek fans, Eldor’s contribution makes the victories even sweeter!
