Frenkie de Jong yet to agree on new contract: Saudi club waiting in line

Barcelona is continuing negotiations with one of its key midfielders, Frenkie de Jong, regarding a contract extension. However, the two sides have not yet reached an agreement. Despite mutual interest in continuing the partnership, the main terms of the contract remain unresolved.

According to trusted football journalist Matteo Moretto, one of Saudi Arabia’s top clubs, Al-Ittihad, is closely monitoring the situation. Although they have not yet initiated direct talks with de Jong, if the Dutch midfielder fails to agree on a new deal with Barcelona, the Saudi club is prepared to make a serious move.

It is worth noting that de Jong’s current contract with Barcelona is valid until the summer of 2026. Still, the Catalan club wants to extend it early. Negotiations continue, but no concrete deal has been finalized.

Al-Ittihad, with its strong financial resources, is pursuing a strategy of strengthening its squad by signing global stars. The club has already drawn global attention with previous high-profile signings and seems set to continue in the same direction.

This season, de Jong has delivered a high-level and consistent performance, remaining one of Barcelona’s most important players. Head coach Xavi has repeatedly expressed his desire to keep the Dutchman at the club.
