In matchweek 35 of the Spanish championship, FC Barcelona achieved a dramatic and historic victory over their archrival, Real Madrid. Despite trailing 0–2, the Catalans staged an impressive comeback and defeated their opponent with a final score of 4–3.
At the post-match press conference, Barcelona head coach Hans-Dieter Flick highly praised his team’s determined victory and expressed gratitude to the fans and players:
“Today’s victory is a true gift for our fans and players. It’s simply a fantastic result. Everyone knows that Real Madrid is a top-class team. After a grueling 120-minute semifinal match in Milan in the Champions League, it wasn’t easy to produce such a comeback. But my players displayed both mental and physical strength and got the job done. Honestly, after such tense and emotional games, I feel like I need to get my heart checked,” Flick said jokingly.
However, the German coach did not hide the flaws in his team’s performance even after the win. He specifically emphasized the need to address mistakes in the defensive line:
“We secured the victory, but this match showed that we still have a lot of work to do in defense. In terms of pressing and attacking movements, there’s almost no problem. But if mistakes like the one that led to the first goal happen again, they could create major issues for us in the future. Allowing such errors gives our opponents a huge advantage. That’s why we need to improve our collective play,” the Catalan coach stressed.
The coach also underlined that, due to the tight match schedule, it’s currently difficult to fully correct all flaws during training:
“We’re aiming to grow both physically and tactically. But right now, we’re playing a match every three days, and that limits what we can do in training. However, that’s no excuse for us. When we plan our summer preparation, we’ll focus seriously on eliminating these weaknesses,” said Flick.
At this moment, with three matches remaining in the La Liga season, Barcelona is leading the table with 82 points. Their closest chaser, Real Madrid, trails them by seven points. If Barça wins their next match, they will officially secure the championship ahead of schedule. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
