Mohamed Salah: “Winning the Ballon d’Or is my biggest dream”

Liverpool’s Egyptian star and captain Mohamed Salah shared his thoughts on winning the most prestigious individual football award — the Ballon d’Or. In an interview with France Football, the experienced footballer spoke about what goals he would dedicate the remainder of his career to and how determined he is to win the award.

At the beginning of this season, when Liverpool was competing for four trophies at once, Mohamed Salah was seen as one of the main contenders for the Ballon d’Or. However, after the team was eliminated from the Champions League, his chances of winning the individual award significantly dropped. Despite that, Salah sincerely spoke about his dreams and aspirations:

“It’s not in my own hands, but I dream of winning the Ballon d’Or one day for my people and my country. For a boy who grew up in a small village in Egypt, even dreaming about such an award is difficult. I only began to seriously think about it after joining Liverpool. But even if I don’t achieve it, I’ll still be satisfied with my football career and consider it a success,” the forward said.

Salah also mentioned his age and emphasized that he still has many opportunities ahead of him:

“I’m 32 years old now, and if we look at the recent Ballon d’Or winners, many of them achieved it after the age of thirty. So, I still have a chance. Next season will be even more exciting and important for us. We need to defend our Premier League title with Liverpool and fight to win the Champions League. In addition, I will participate with the Egyptian national team in the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup. That will give me more opportunities to showcase myself even better,” Salah added.

It is worth noting that in the current season, Mohamed Salah has played 50 matches for Liverpool, scoring 33 goals and providing 23 assists. These statistics once again confirm that he is the main leader and most effective player in the team.
