Manchester City’s main striker and Norway national team forward Erling Haaland shared his personal thoughts on the team’s results in the current Premier League season.
At the moment, under Pep Guardiola’s management, City is in fourth place in the Premier League table with 65 points. Compared to the club’s high standards in recent years, this position is far from satisfying for fans and players alike.
Haaland: “You can’t be satisfied with these results”
— If you’ve won the Premier League four times in a row and fail to win the fifth, it definitely feels like a step back. We’ve already set these kinds of expectations and standards. That’s why it’s difficult to call this season successful, — said Haaland.
He emphasized that the team lacked consistency this season and dropped too many crucial points. The absence of long winning streaks also played a role in falling behind in the title race.
— We didn’t manage to produce enough winning runs. In key matches, we needed better mental stability and serious preparation, — he added.
Injuries and poor form — but no excuses
Haaland also mentioned the issue of injuries within the squad but refused to use it as an excuse:
— Yes, several important players were injured throughout the season. But for a club of this level, that can’t be an excuse. Every player must be in top form. If not, winning matches in this country is very difficult, — he said.
The goal is still ahead
Nonetheless, Haaland noted that City still has a chance to qualify for the Champions League. According to him, the entire team must give their best in the remaining matches to finish the season on a high note.
