Eldor Shomurodov: Europe is now talking about Khusanov
After the historic achievement of the Uzbekistan national team — qualifying for the World Cup for the first time — interest in our footballers continues to grow worldwide. In particular, there are more and more conversations about our compatriots playing in European clubs.

Speaking on the popular “Nobel” YouTube channel, Eldor Shomurodov shared some interesting stories on this topic. According to him, in recent years, interest in Uzbek footballers in Italy has increased significantly.

— Previously, they would ask me, “Are you the only one playing in Europe?” When I said “yes,” they joked, “Then you are the king.” But nowadays, there’s another name in the spotlight — Abdukodir Khusanov, — said Eldor.

According to Shomurodov, his teammates in Italy now ask him about Husanov. They joke: “Has a new king been born in Uzbekistan?”, “Khusanov plays for City, he’s even surpassed you now?” Eldor sincerely responds, “Yes, he’s actually on a higher level than me.”

It should be recalled that Eldor Shomurodov was raised in the Mash’al academy and later played for Bunyodkor. In 2017, he moved to Russia’s Rostov, and after a successful three-year stint, transferred to Italy’s Genoa. Later, he moved to Roma, where he won the UEFA Conference League.

Currently, Shomurodov has played 129 matches in Serie A, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists. He is also the national team’s all-time top scorer with 42 goals in 82 matches.

At present, Eldor remains an important figure for the national team thanks to his experience and leadership qualities. In his words, there is not only simple talk, but also hope for the future, unity, and confidence in a new era for Uzbek football.

Now, not only Shomurodov but also young talents like Khusanov are becoming known around the world. Thanks to them, Uzbekistan’s football potential continues to rise.
