The date and venue of the draw for the biggest and most anticipated football tournament – the 2026 FIFA World Cup – have been officially announced. According to FIFA, the event will be held on December 5 of this year in Washington, the capital of the United States, at the Kennedy Center, considered the cultural heart of the country.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino, speaking about the draw, described it as one of the most important milestones in the history of world football. He stated: “We are delighted to hold the most anticipated draw in World Cup history at the Kennedy Center, the cultural hub of the United States. This is one of the key events on the road to the tournament and a major step in preparing for the biggest sporting celebration of 2026. We look forward to welcoming team delegations, our partners, the media, and most importantly, football fans from the 16 host cities in Washington,” he said.
According to reports, so far, in addition to the hosts, 10 national teams have already secured their places at the World Cup. Among them are Uzbekistan, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Ecuador, Iran, Japan, Jordan, the Republic of Korea, and New Zealand.
In total, 48 national teams will participate in the World Cup. By the time of the draw, 42 of them will have been confirmed. The remaining 6 spots will be decided in March 2026 through playoff matches.
