Aitjan Khalmakhanov from Uzbekistan achieved a historic victory at the World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. He won the gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling in the -63 kg weight category, defeating Chung Han-Jee of Korea in the final.
This achievement became the first gold medal won by Uzbek Greco-Roman wrestlers at world championships in the last 24 years.
According to the results of the competition, the Uzbekistan national team returned with a total of five medals:
- Gold: Aitzhan Khalmakhanov (63 kg, Greco-Roman wrestling)
- Silver: Alisher Ganiev (60 kg, Greco-Roman wrestling)
- Bronze: Gulomjon Abdullayev (57 kg, freestyle wrestling)
- Bronze: Umidjon Jalolov (65 kg, freestyle wrestling)
- Bronze: Abdulla Aliyev (72 kg, Greco-Roman wrestling)
