The head coach of the Italian national team, Gennaro Gattuso, jokingly commented on the appointment of his friend and former teammate Fabio Cannavaro to the Uzbekistan national team. The 2006 Ballon d'Or winner, who officially took office on October 6th, is now preparing the White Wolves for the 2026 World Cup.
Gattuso added that today he said everything not from the messenger, but directly by phone: "I didn't write to him, I called him. I said, 'Look, you're going to the World Cup with perfume, applying gel to your hair, and I'm fighting here every day,'" the Italian coach joked.
As is known, Cannavaro took over the Uzbekistan national team on October 6th and took charge before the major tournament. He became world champion as captain in Italy in 2006, and is now on the verge of participating in the World Cup as head coach for the first time.
Meanwhile, Gattuso's team faces serious challenges: on October 11th, Italy will face Estonia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. According to the coach, the main task is to increase the number of points without losing the game tempo found in recent matches.
Although the paths of the two legendary champions are different, the goal is the same - to give strength to their team and make the fans happy. We wish success to Cannavaro in Uzbekistan and Gattuso in Europe!
