Iranian national team head coach Amir Galenoi shared his thoughts on the game after the 2-1 friendly defeat to Russia.
The coach emphasized that the match was tactically interesting and his team created good chances during the game, despite strong Russian competition.
"It was a very interesting game from a tactical point of view. I congratulate the Russian national team on their victory. Of course, it's not easy to play against an opponent who acts with the help of their fans in such a large stadium. But we also showed our potential," Galenoi said.
According to the Iranian coach, the team was more active in the second half and had several opportunities to equalize.
"After the break, our team's game became much more active. There were several scoring opportunities, but we couldn't capitalize on them. Unfortunately, we conceded the second goal at the end of the game," the specialist added.
At the same time, Amir Galenoi assessed this match as a great experience before the World Cup.
"The result wasn't what we expected, but this game was a big lesson for us. We learned a lot by playing against a strong opponent before the World Cup. "This experience is very valuable for us," he concluded.
As a reminder, the hosts won the friendly match between Russia and Iran with a score of 2:1.
