Kapadze on the verge of a new stage: Indonesia considers him for head coach position

Former head coach of the Uzbekistan national team Timur Kapadze is once again at the center of a major international football project. According to "Goal Media", he is one of the main candidates to lead the Indonesian national football team.

According to reports, the Indonesian Football Federation is currently discussing three candidates: Uzbekistan’s Kapadze, former “Persija” coach German Thomas Doll, and former Iraq national team coach Spaniard Jesús Casas.

After the Indonesian national team was left without a head coach, the federation plans to make a decision in the coming days. The previous coach, Patrick Kluivert, terminated his contract by mutual agreement. The Dutch specialist had been appointed on January 8 this year, but the results were disappointing.

On October 11, Indonesia lost 0–1 to Iraq in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and was eliminated from the race for a spot at the tournament to be held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Analysts note that Kapadze’s candidacy makes sense for Indonesia — he has strong experience working with youth players, and during his tenure with Uzbekistan, his teams were known for discipline and high-intensity play.

If the deal goes through, Kapadze will become one of the first Uzbek head coaches to manage a national team in Southeast Asia. This would mark not only a new step in his career but also another milestone for Uzbek coaching on the international stage.
