British General: Ukraine is unlikely to defeat Russia

Ukraine cannot win the war with Russia, and Kyiv must begin negotiations with Moscow. Former British Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief David Richards announced this in an interview with The Independent.

The publication notes that the former high-ranking British Army officer stated that the probability of Ukraine winning the war is very low and that it is necessary to engage in dialogue with the Kremlin on terms of peace.

According to Richards, Western countries have given Kyiv "unfounded hopes" that it could withdraw Russian troops without NATO assistance.

"We urged Ukraine to fight, but we did not give it the necessary means for victory. In my opinion, they will not be able to win this war," said the former commander-in-chief of the British Army.

He stressed that the prolongation of the war could have negative consequences for both Ukraine and the security system in Europe. Richards expressed confidence that a solution to this situation could only be found through diplomatic means.
