In the 9th round of the Premier League, Manchester City lost 0-1 away to Aston Villa. After the match, City manager Pep Guardiola analyzed the team's actions and openly stated the reasons for the defeat.
The Spanish specialist emphasized that the team didn't have a bad performance, but there was a lack of clarity in the decisive moment.
"We didn't play badly today. Maybe it seems that way because of the result, but as a game, my team looked very strong. However, there was no clarity in our recent decisions to end attacks - there were many mistakes in shots, passes, or final passes," Guardiola said.
According to him, "City" dominated for the first 15-20 minutes, but then "Aston Villa" acted actively and took control of the game's rhythm.
"In the first minutes, we kept the opponent under pressure, but then they played very aggressively in the front line. Even in single combat, they prevailed over us. There was little determination in the fight for the ball. "This aspect must be acknowledged," he added.
Guardiola emphasized that Aston Villa took dangerous chances from set pieces but didn't hide their satisfaction with their players' performances in the second half.
"In the second half, my team played well, we took control of the game. But one thing was missing - a goal. We had chances, but we couldn't finish with an accurate shot. In such games, even a single goal is of great importance," he said.
Despite the defeat, the coach emphasized that he believes in his players and is proud of their efforts. "We have a strong team. There's only one shortcoming - there was a fuss at the end, but I'm still satisfied with my team," Guardiola concluded.
